THE WILSON SCHOOL OF GYMNASTICS & DANCE
Competitive Gymnastics Team Information 2008-2009

The Wilson School of Gymnastics and Dance competitive teams compete under the auspices of the United States of America Gymnastics (USAG) and the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs (USAIGC).  Compulsory as well as optional competition is stressed in an effort to develop a strong base upon which to build well-rounded gymnastic performance.

Children are expected to treat team status as an honor and may enter the competitive program only through invitation. Parents and/or children who are interested in the competitive program should feel free to express this to our instructors.

Competition levels are determined by the gymnast's skill level, the coaches evaluation and expectations, and the skill requirements set forth by the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Developmental program.

Parental involvement is also an important factor in the success of the teams at WSGD. Parents are asked to help with the running of meets, fund raising activities, setting up and tearing down of shows and large meets, transportation to and from meets, and lending support whenever needed. This is done through our Parents’ Association. Monies raised through the Parents’ Association may be used towards meet registration costs, tuition, athlete USAG membership as well as going towards the purchase of equipment needed by the team gymnasts and planned activities for the gymnasts. Each team child must pay an annual assessment to the Parents’ Association to cover the above costs and the cost of attending the meets not covered through fundraising activities.

The assessment costs last year were as follows: Level 4 $650.00, Level 5/6 $750.00 and Optional Team $900.00.  Because costs of meets and other factors may increase in costs this season, these figures are provided as an estimate only at this time. This annual assessment fee will be divided into monthly payments (probably September-January).

All level 4 and up team children are required to join the USAG.  Annual membership runs from August of one year to July 31st of the next and is $53.00 per year. USAG membership includes secondary insurance coverage for athletes competing in sanctioned USAG meets and is required. The USA GYMNAST magazine is included in the USAG membership fee. The Wilson School of Gymnastics' yearly membership fee of $40.00 is also required and includes the cost of insurance for our athletes during training.

All of the gymnasts wear the same leotard and warm up suit to all of their meets. They will also need a bag to carry some basic items to the meets. The approximate cost for these three items is $177.50. Varying factors go into the frequency of changing these items, but your daughter should get several seasons out of her leotard and warm up suit.

All competitive teams practice twelve months out of the year and require tuition as such. Exceptions are made in cases of illness or injury lasting two weeks or more. Since a portion of your tuition is used to supplement coaches’ meet expenses and is based on the number of gymnasts per year, families will be expected to pay only this portion of tuition until the gymnast returns to training. Presently, this amount is $20.00 per month for levels 4/5/6 and $25.00 for optional level gymnasts. A doctor’s note must be provided when the gymnast returns.

If a gymnast wishes to take a month off, but still be considered a team member, tuition is required to hold her place on team.

Make-ups: We would like to stress that attending the practices designated for your gymnasts level is the most valuable training time she can receive. We also acknowledge that there are other things that the children must be able to do and want to continue to offer as much flexibility as possible.

ðThe number of make up practices will be limited. Level 4 gymnasts will be allowed 6, Level 5 and 6 gymnasts 8, Level 7 through 10 gymnasts 10. (The number of make-ups per level is equal to two and a half weeks.)

ð
Make ups will be available from September through May. Because of the summer schedule times as well as the training regiment over the summer, it is not feasible to offer make-up practices during the summer.

ðMake ups will not be carried over from season to season.

ðMake ups will not be scheduled on a weekend that any level has a meet.

ðMake up spaces are limited and will be filled as they become available.

ð
All make up practices must be scheduled through the office, not the coaches. It is also important to remember that times you will miss must also go through the office and not the coaches.

ð
If a scheduling chance occurs, your make-up may need to be rescheduled. We would let you know as soon as possible if this should happen.

Make up times for September 2008 through May 31st 2009 will be provided by August 25th.
