LITTLE EXPLORERS: For children walking to 18 months old (and an adult). This half-hour class focuses on movement exploration and development of motor skills all while having fun and interacting with a parent. Music, obstacle courses, balloons, beanbags, balls, and shapes will be among the exciting and colorful props used during class. What a great opportunity to have fun moving together without worrying about the living room furniture!
TODDLERS: For children age 18 months to 3 years old (and an adult). This fifty-minute class focuses on basic movement, body awareness, and fundamental motor skills through the creative structuring of the class and activities. Rhythmic activities, music, obstacle courses, balloons, beanbags, parachute, balls, shapes and colors are among the themes used during class.
TINY TOTS: For children ages 3 and 4. This fifty-minute class concentrates on developing fundamental motor skills, coordination, strength, balance, body awareness and flexibility. These skills are developed through introductory activities on balance beam, bars, floor, vault and Tumbl Trak. Classes feature 14 week rotating thematic opening activities designed to stimulate the children’s creativity while developing fundamental gymnastics skills. Classes end with a group activity or game.
TOTS: For children ages 5 and 6. This fifty-minute class is an expansion of the Tiny Tot program (see above description), with additional emphasis on the development of gymnastics skills.
TOTS TOO: For children ages 5 and 6 years old who demonstrate exceptional strength, coordination and flexibility. This ninety-minute class will follow the format of the tots class, with more advanced developmental and gymnastics skills being taught. This class requires permission or recommendation from an instructor. Children who have previously participated in our tot/tiny tot program will be considered.
OLDER GIRLS & BOYS: For children ages 7 and up. This fifty-minute class is for beginner through intermediate levels. There will be instruction on balance beam, uneven bars, floor exercise, Tumbl Trak, and vault. The USA Gymnastics (USAG) developmental gymnastics program is followed. Advanced children and children interested in competition should register for the two hour class.
TWO-HOUR-OLDER GIRLS & BOYS: For children ages 7 and up. This two-hour class is designed for beginner to advanced intermediate children who are interested in taking a longer class, which provides opportunity to learn more gymnastics skills on floor, balance beam, uneven bars, and vault.
ADVANCED OLDER GIRLS: This three-hour class is designed for children with advanced skills. It is a perfect fit for former competitive gymnasts who want to maintain skills as well as continuing to learn new ones in non-competitive setting. Please contact the office or (click here) for specific skill requirements (such as a strong round off and a standing back handspring on floor). Children currently enrolled in our two-hour class, will be recommended for this class as their skill level warrants.
CHEERNASTICS I: For boys and girls ages 4 and up. This fifty-minute class is for children who are interested in learning about the sport of cheerleading. The classes will consist of basic tumbling on floor, Tumbl Trak, and trampoline, as well as partner stunts/pyramids, tosses, dismounts, and motions. Instruction will be appropriate for the ages of the children and class size.
CHEERNASTICS II: For boys and girls ages 7 and up. This ninety-minute class is designed as a developmental program for children interested in competitive cheerleading as well as those already involved in school and midget cheerleading. The class provides more advanced instruction in tumbling, stunting, routines, jumps and conditioning. Instruction in these areas will be based on the skill level and size of the class.
PANTHER CUBS: For children who turn 4 by July through children who turn 6 after May 31st. This one-hour class meets once per week for an hour and a half and serves as introduction to All-Star Cheerleading. Basic skill and stunt development is emphasized. Children can enroll in this class through January 2009. At that time they will begin to learn an age appropriate routine and will attend a competition in April or May.
CHEER / OLDER BOYS TUMBLING: For boys and girls ages 7 and up. This fifty-minute class is designed for cheerleaders who are working toward a specific skill or skills while perfecting existing ones. It is also a perfect fit for older boys who would like to concentrate on tumbling skills. Tumbling instruction will be aided by use of our spring floor, Tumbl Trak and trampoline. Strength training needed for more advanced tumbling is also included in this class.
TRAMPOLINE & TUMBLING CLASSES: For boys and girls ages 6 and up. This fifty-minute class consists of instruction in tumbling and jumps on floor, Tumbl Trak, trampoline, and mini tramp. This is a fun class for all children.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT (3/4): For children ages 3 and 4. This thirty-minute class is structured for younger children and serves as an introduction to rythmics, dance and movement. Basic fundamental locomotor skills and movement vocabulary are developed through creative and improvisational movement/dance.
TAP/BALLET CLASSES: For children ages 4/5, 5/6. This one-hour class begins with tap followed by improvisational work and ballet. Tap instruction includes simple steps and rhythms, center combination steps such as brushes, flaps, shuffles, stomps, and stamps. Ballet instruction will include barre work, basic positions, stationary and traveling ballet movements. Children may sign up for the full hour or choose only the tap or ballet portion.
JAZZ/BALLET CLASS: For children ages 7 and up. This one-hour class is structured for older children who have are interested in a more comprehensive dance environment. Classes will begin with ballet (barre work, positions, enhancing turnout, traveling, and beginning leaps and turns), and jazz (jumps, turns, traveling and rhythmic movement). Children may sign up for the full hour, the full ninety minutes including tap, or any combination of the jazz, ballet and tap classes.
TAP 7 & OLDER: For children ages 7 and Up. This thirty minute Tap class may be taken as a stand-alone class or combined with the Jazz/Tap class and is for older children interested in a more comprehensive dance environment. Instruction includes simple steps and rhythms, center combination steps such as brushes, flaps, shuffles, stomps, and stamps as well as more intensive instruction on stationary tapping, traveling, sound identification and beginning jumps.
WDC (Wilson Dance Company): For children ages 8 and up who have a strong base in ballet, tap and/or jazz who are interested in more advanced instruction and dance performance. Company members will work individually and as a group to sharpen their current talents in ballet, jazz, tap and lyrical studies as well as to broaden their vocabulary in these techniques. Children and parents should be willing to commit to coming two days per week, and be able to attend class on a regular basis. Children interested in JDC should sign up for the jazz/Ballet and Tap for 7 and older September. Please let Lefty or Ms Jen know if you are interested in the Company.
